Spoken Word Flyer- 2024-FINAL 2

Spoken Word Event

April 6 @ 7:00 pm

Stand Up’s Spoken Word fundraising event – Our Voices Our History – is an event with a two-fold purpose. Primarily, it is an event to showcase local talent (ages 13-25) by way of spoken word performances based on a particular theme.

Spoken Word can encompass or contain elements of rap, hip-hop, storytelling, theater, jazz, rock, blues, and folk music. Characterized by rhyme, repetition, improvisation, and wordplay, spoken word poems frequently refer to issues of social justice, politics, race, and community. Related to slam poetry, spoken word may draw on music, sound, dance, or other kinds of performance to connect with audiences. Our theme/topic for this year’s event is “A tale of [my] history and how it impacts me [today]”. Performances may be either an original piece or recitations.

We are pleased to award cash prizes for first, second, and third place ($100, $50, and $25) and a participation award of a $10 gift card for all remaining participants!

The secondary purpose is to raise awareness and funding for Stand Up, Speak Out, Speak Out in an effort to continue our quest to bring DEI to our community and assist at-risk youth.

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Poetry Out Loud competition. What a phenomenal job done by all!!
